Cpu Heat Sink
All modern computers rely on some form of heat exchanger with higher end models using cpu heat sinks.
Cpu heat sink. They always have some cooling usually a fan. It may also shorten the life of your cpu or cause immediate damage. It is important that such machines stay as cool as possible. These important components are not just for computers.
The components that generate the most heat in your computer are the cpu central processing unit video card if your computer has one and the power supply. Both a heat sink and a radiator require airflow and therefore both have fans built in. The heat sink has a thermal conductor that carries heat away from the cpu into fins that provide a large surface area for the heat to dissipate throughout the rest of the computer thus cooling both the heat sink and processor. Other components that may have a heat sink include the north bridge south bridge and memory.
Large heat sinks help any machine that generates heat as a byproduct such as a car or refrigerator. When you use heavy applications such as video games and video editing software the cpu can produce excess heat which may cause your computer to freeze.
